Coursework at UCSD Extension provided my first experience with HTML & Web Publishing. I traveled cross country for a crash course in CSS shortly thereafter. Both have been staples of my daily work routine throughout my career.
Since 2015, I've used CSS to develop responsive WordPress and Bootstrap sites.
I started writing basic scripts to create alerts, informational pop-ups and disguise data from spambots more than a decade ago.
In 2016, I began using JS & jQuery to design UX/UI, customize themes and plugins and manipulate the DOM.
Visit my UI event and animation library at JSFiddle.net for more.
I first learned to program in PHP and build MySQL databases in the early 2000s.
Throughout my career, PHP and MySQL have allowed me to centralize code, collect, store and display data, validate forms, process online payments, handle email notifications, and develop custom shopping carts and content management systems.
Photoshop and Dreamweaver inspired me to pursue a career in web design, which later blossomed into web development and SEO.
At the beginning of my career, I began using corelDRAW to design vector logos, icons and illustrations. In 2016, I switched to Adobe Illustrator to accomplish similar projects.
The marketing portion of my web development role often requires I author web, email and paid ad copy.
I've attended several Google sponsored SEO conferences, researched keyword, optimized websites, managed AdWords campaigns, and written articles, press releases, software installation instructions and fulfillment emails.
For the past year, I've been using Semrush to conduct keyword research for web and social media.
I began customizing Myspace user profiles with HTML & CSS in 2006. At the same time, I developed and wrote WordPress blogs for SEM purposes.
My Facebook business and personal accounts later replaced Myspace and I started using WordPress to develop websites.
For the past 2 years, I've published video clips to YouTube and used Hootsuite to post marketing content to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
My avid curiosity, and occasional boredom, with web development tasks has always motivated me to acquire new skills.
Learning comes easy for me. I've studied the basics of AJAX and JSON and have other frameworks and libraries like Node.js, React, and AngularJS waiting in my queue of knowledge.
Early this year, I spent time exploring WordPress block themes and patterns with JSON.

When considering companies for employment, I look for the same things I aspire to myself:
Experience, wisdom, balance, focus, creativity, dedication, timeliness, honesty, respectfulness, maturity and kindness.
What I like most about it, is that it's continuously evolving. As technologies and styles change, I get to change. And that keeps development fun and interesting.
The testing portion of development is likely my least favorite. I understand its necessity, but with so many devices, operating systems and web browsers, the process can be mundane.
I'm most happy that I tried my hand at self-employment. Though large companies like Google and WordPress took over the small business directory and DIY website CMS markets I was targeting, I learned a tremendous amount.
I was working remotely for my last employer and told the company was laying me off for that reason. My supervisor told me he would give me a "glowing recommendation."
